Foo Fighters - Wasting Light

Have you ever felt like the moment you started listening to a certain album, it just instantly clicks with you? Well that happened to me, when I first heard Foo Fighters ''newest'' album - "Wasting Light". Why is it so good? Why did I suddenly feel like my clothes were melting off my body as I listened to this album? Well I'll tell you all about that.

Wasting Light is the seventh studio album of our beloved alternative rock band -  Foo Fighters. Released on April 12th 2011, the bands foreman Dave Grohl wanted for the band to return to their original sound, which could be heard in their early works. He wanted to get rid of the artificial sound that the previous albums seemed to have incorporated. The band got together in a garage and just recorded all their songs there, with very basic editing. That's all just background info. You want to hear about the album, right? Okay then.

Wasting Light consists of 11 tracks and the total runtime of the album is 47 minutes and 53 seconds. I've rarely had an album, where I can enjoy all the songs on the album. Wasting Light did just that. Even if it has some slow tracks, its so beautiful and pleasing to the ears, that every rock-lover can get behind it. The whole album has some of the best guitar-work I've heard from Foo Fighters in a while and that is saying a lot. Foo Fighters really know how to handle their guitars, because all the riffs and all the melodies coming out of them are like having rainbows flowing straight into my brain. Drum work and vocals are also quite excellent on this album. Dave Grohls vocals at an all-time high on this one. The man is a musical genius, simple as that. So what about the songs? How good are they? Let's run it down.

1. "Bridge Burning" - The leading song in their album, amazing guitar-work and drum work. The lyrics are quite good as well. It pumps you up and gets you ready for action. All in all, a very lovely song. 8/10

2. "Rope" - This may or may not be my favorite song from Foo Fighters. Ever. I'm a big fan of their work, and yet this song blew me away with its energy and intensity. That guitar work...oh god...it's out of this world. It's amazing. No other word to describe it. Another selling point of this song are the vocals. Dave Grohl is a god. 9.5/10

3. "Dear Rosemary" - A very good song, has very nice lyrical work. A lot of emotion went into the making of this song, it seems. Drum-work is also quite good. 7//10

4."White Limo" - A very rowdy song. The guitar riffs and the screaming vocals really show off how crazy Foo Fighters can get. It crosses into the metal genre to be honest, but is still a very energy-filled song. The riff is pretty consistent and good. 6.5/10

5."Arlandria" - I love this song as well. The lyrics feel very genuine, and it just speaks volumes to me. The chorus is great as well, fueled by a wide range of emotions. Great song. 8.5/10

6."These Days" - Kind of a slower song, but it picks up its pace at certain parts. Not much to say about to say about this one, a very standard and decent song. 6.5/10

7."Back&Forth" - Great guitar work once again. Lyrics have passion to them as well. I quite enjoy this song. It has quite a triumphant feel to it, and I dig that. The chorus is pretty catchy and the song overall is a very enjoyable experience. 7.5/10

8."A Matter of Time" - Lovely consistent riff, that gets stuck in your brain for a good while, after you listen to it. The song has kind of a somber feel to it, but it may be just me. The riff sounds uplifting, yet the lyrics have somberness to them. Good song though. 7.5/10

9."Miss the Misery" - The guitar work is once again at an all time high on this one. Great riffs and great drum-work that gives flavor to the tight riffs. This one is a pleasure to the ears, same as ''Rope''. I rather enjoy the lyrics too. Great Song 8.5/10

10."I Should Have Known" - Probably the weakest link in the album for me, but that's because I can't stand slow-songs. Not much to say, as I don't like to express negative thoughts that might tarnish this albums greatness. The guitar-work is once again quite lovely. 5.5/10

11."Walk" - A great song on which to end the album on. It's a very triumphant song, expressing the desire to live on, and about getting over the hardships of life. I think it's a very inspiring song, and can get you in a good mood in a snap. Love the riffs, love the lyrics, love the drum-work. Great Song. 8/10

Overall score - 8/10
While its not close to getting a 10/10, the songs that are good on this album, are REALLY good. I can't stress this enough, go listen to it right now. It is a great album from a great band.

Till next time.
